Transforming teaching with Data and Artificial Intelligence

Transformation of teaching practices is a comprehensive endeavour that comprise of multiple factors, including the adoption of latest technologies such as data and AI. However, simply infusing technology is insufficient, as newer technologies are constantly evolving. Hence, educators need to be equipped with the analytic skills to process and understand data and AI, so that they can design new teaching pedagogies that maximise modern technological affordances. A/P David Ng, Associate Dean/Academic Quality, will share his innovative insights on how fellow educators may design more effective learning solutions that meet the demands of the modern learners.

Panel Discussions

2.1. Innovating pedagogical practices: Teachers as guides on the side

Although the old adage of teachers being as sage on stage has been prone to multiple criticisms, many educators still instinctively adopt frontal teaching due to time pressures and lack of effective training. Much research shows that learners learn best by involving themselves in the thinking process where they co-construct knowledge with their peers. This reveals a critical importance to the role of facilitation, where teachers perform as guides on the side to elicit greater student understanding and engagement. Join the panel of experienced faculty members as they share their insights on these pressing issues based on their experiences in their project developments.

2.2. Innovating pedagogical practices: Teachers as data analysts

With the proliferation of internet, the current generation of learners are growing up in an environment where information is easily accessible to them through a plethora of platforms and devices. As such, they naturally expect lessons to be delivered with greater emphasis on data so that theories may be supported by empirical evidences. Teachers thus require to perform at a higher level of being inquisitive analysts of data, so that they may share deeper insights for students to think deeper.
